Commenting on the decision by the Justice Minister to extend her term by two years, Commissioner Designate Geraldine Hanna said:
“I am pleased to accept the Justice Minister’s offer to continue in the role of Commissioner Designate for Victims of Crime for a further two years.
“Since taking up the post almost exactly three years ago, my focus has been on amplifying the voices of victims to drive positive change, and I have been humbled by the dozens of victims who have come forward to tell me their stories.
“From the work we’ve done on the impact of third-party disclosure practices on victims of sexual abuse, to running the first victim survey open to victims of all crimes in Northern Ireland, I am proud of the work this office has done so far and the impact it has had.
“I am also aware that there is still much that needs to be done to make sure victims receive the support and services they need.
“I am excited to continue working hard to make sure victim’s voices are heard by those with the power to make improvements.”
